According to news reports, the 47-year-old British car show co-host lost control of his vehicle in the Swiss Alps during a filming of Amazon Prime’s second season of the Grand Tour.
After crashing, Hammond evacuated the vehicle shortly, “…before it burst into flames,” according to a statement from Grand Tour communications. He experienced several injuries, but none life-threatening.Jeremy Clarkson, one of Hammond’s co-presenters, tweeted the following earlier today:
Our thoughts and prayers are with “Hamster” and his family at this concerning time. We hope he has a speedy recovery.
Q: So, what was the Grand Tour’s co-presenter driving?
A: Rimac Concept One.
If you’re not familiar with the vehicle in question, the Concept One is an electric supercar with tremendous style and power (read: 811 kW…or 1,088 hp equivalent). The vehicles are Croatian in origin and go for almost $1 million each.
Note: This is not the actual car Hammond crashed, but it is an actual Rimac Concept One we spotted earlier this year at Manhattan Motorcars in New York City.
