Yes, the hassle-free parking future is coming, and if BMW has their way, owners of a blue and white roundel will no longer have to hunt for public parking spaces.
Apparently, BMW has partnered with Parkmobile (one of the bajillion parking app companies) to “launch the industry’s first integrated automated on-street and off-street reservations parking system into the [BMW] luxury line of cars.” Or, at least that is what the communications rep at Parkmobile tells me.
Yeah, it’s not like this parking app technology is anything new. We’ve all been using it on our smartphones for years. What is new though, is that the tech is integrated to the vehicle directly from the vehicle manufacturer.
According to some other information I was able to gather from the mobility company, “Parkmobile currently enables consumers to find, reserve and pay for parking through a single app in over 2,000 locations. With this launch, BMW drivers can initiate and pay for this option across the Parkmobile Network. It will leverage navigation and GPS to prompt BMW drivers to begin a parking session through the dashboard screen without the need to pay a meter or initiate a session via mobile app.”
It’s the integration of the car’s GPS with the “find me a damn spot” feature that has received my attention. Hence, this post.
Of course, if a car has Apple’s CarPlay, isn’t it just a matter of time until that feature is available too?
Exclusivity: It is so shortly lived. You feel me?
