Meet my ride for a few days last week. The Mercedes Benz C300 4matic. If Mercedes’ goal was to make a baby S class, they did a bang up job. This particular model was pretty base, but the materials were still high quality, the seats comfortable, and the ride rather smooth. Not too much back seat, but enough for a short trip down the street in the back.
This car is really a nice entry into luxury vehicle ownership. Keep in mind, it is not an S class, and people will probably not be straining to look who’s at the wheel, but if you want a piece of the Mercedes ownership experience, this is a nice place to start. Add a few upgrades, and the interior goes to “wow”…especially in it’s class. Gas mileage is good, too!
If you are looking for a sports car experience, however, this is probably not your car. Look at a Lesus IS 350 F sport (great chassis though a little underpowered) or a BMW. The C does have a sport plus setting that is pretty good, but the sport mode in general is rather a strange mix of interesting and syrup. Kind of like how a purple velour suit is neat but also a little weird. The chassis has a luxury bias, so when you take to some curves in sport, you get a fast grippy floaty Mrs. Butter worth mixed with Red Bull experience. Neat…strange…Plus, this is a car that is reluctant to down shift…in sport and comfort mode. That’s why the left paddle shift is your friend. In fact, the car drives best with either the paddles….or in complete comfort mode. I selected the latter in the end. Sure, it was not an S class, but in comfort, it made the long commute in traffic a better place to be. One suggestion to Mercedes….offer massage seating in the C class….just sayin…..
