Two people remained after the Alfa Romeo Giulia press conference. We had a lot of questions to ask about Alfa’s HOT new 4 door sport sedan. Apparently, the persistently inquisitive member of the Alfa Romeo driver’s club had a million. He also had nothing but time. So, we waited our turn…and waited…and waited. It was like being 10 again, dying for your dad to stop talking business. We fiddled with our phone and snapped a lot of pictures (below) while waiting.
Finally, it was Auto Mentality’s turn. Here’s the scoop:
What you see here, is the Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrifoglio. This is the variant you want. It’s the fastest, highest performance sedan to grace the Nurburgring – EVER. Lap time? 7 minutes and 39 seconds. That puts it on par with a lap in an ’07 Ferrari 430 Scuderia. It’s also one second behind a ‘10 Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera. (source – https://nurburgringlaptimes.com/lap-times-top-100/)
The Guilia Quadrifoglio’s 505 HP Ferrari sourced engine grinds out 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. The roof, hood, and driveshaft are all made of carbon fiber. The transmission is not a DCT, however. WHAT? In order to meet the development schedule, Alfa had to use what it had on hand. That said, the 8 speed ZF transmission is said to be excellent.
Size wise, it looks to be much like it’s Maserati stablemate – the Ghibli. But, the Giulia is shorter, narrower, and has a smaller wheelbase – all in the name of performance. The interior is filled with alcantara and carbon fiber. The rest feels like Italian designers took the insides of a BMW M3 and made it Italian. More rounded, I guess. Anyway, it’s cool.
If high speed, high performance, high priced variants aren’t your bag baby, the Giulia will also appear as a family friendly 4 cylinder. Don’t expect to be crushing lap times in that one, though.
So the big question remains. When can we get one? We were told, “it’s supposed to be late this Summer, but we’re Italian…so maybe this fall.”
Either way, we’ll be in line to drive one.
